The Folker Lab is a group of cell and developmental biologists interested in understanding syncytia. The typical eukaryotic cell has a single nucleus but there are a multitude of specialized cells that contain two or more nuclei, collectively referred to as syncytia. We use Drosophila genetics combined with high-resolution microscopy, and quantitative image analysis to understand the mechanisms that drive the formation, the organization, and the function of these large and poorly understood cells.

The Folker Lab is always looking for scientists interested in syncytia. Applications can be completed at the following links. Please note that students interested in earning a PhD must apply to the Molecular and Cellular Biology PhD program at Boston College.
