Semester and Academic Year

Visit the Getting Started page to begin planning your study abroad experience. With your academic goals and interests in mind, research different types of programs.

Complete the Initial Advising Questionnaire in the OIP Application Portal (Terra Dotta.) The Initial Questionnaire must be completed in order to proceed.

Schedule your Study Abroad 101 Presentation. This presentation will provide details regarding studying abroad at BC. The Study Abroad 101 Presentation is required to study abroad.

Montserrat students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with the Montserrat Advisor next.

Continue to research programs and note questions or concerns for your next meeting with an OIP Advisor. Students should consider how going abroad fits their academic plans and speak to their academic department about what courses may count.

Meeting with an OIP Advisor is strongly recommended. Students wanting to study abroad for a full year or attend a program not approved by BC, must meet with an advisor.

Learn about scholarships and grants.

Submit the BC Study Abroad Application on the OIP Application Portal (Terra Dotta). The application will be available to students who have completed an Initial Questionnaire and attended a Study Abroad 101 Presentation.

After the deadline, the OIP will review the student’s academic and disciplinary record against specific program requirements and approve students to apply with the host institution. Certain programs may have space restrictions. Eligible students who are not approved to apply to the program they have selected may choose another program, provided the program still has openings.

Once approved, students complete the application for the host institution. An Application Instruction PDF will be available in the OIP application system under "Learning Content."

Students usually receive official acceptance from their host institution as show in this chart:

Term Abroad: Fall/Academic Year Spring Semester
Acceptance Sent: late April - June November

Students with questions regarding the status of their application should contact the OIP Applications Team (, not the host institution.

All students are required to attend an assigned Pre-Departure Orientation meeting.

Students should keep in mind that they may need to complete additional post-acceptance paperwork for their abroad program. This may include housing applications, visa documentation, vaccinations, etc. Each program is different and students will be advised accordingly.
