Dr. Brace checking in, back from the 47th annual Symposium on Biomaterials, Fuels & Chemicals (SBFC) hosted by the Society for Industrial Microbiology (SIMB). Postdoctoral researcher Dr. Sarvada, Lil' Baldy, and I - as well as Prof. Antonio Freitas dos Santos from BC Engineering - traveled to Milwaukee for this annual research conference. Dr. Sarvada presented a poster on the work we have been doing on sustainable production of xylitol via fermenttion, ion-exchange separation, and crystallization. She received lots of great questions, feedback, and compliments on the work! I co-chaired the session on systems integration of bioenergy analysis, which included a lot of great talks on TEA, LCA, process modeling, and more! Overall, it was great to connect with other researchers in the biofuels & bioproducts space and we came back with renewed excitement and new ideas.
