The Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB) Annual Meeting was in Boston this year! That made it an easy choice for me and my summer undergraduate research fellows – Luke, Avery, and Mel – to attend! They had a poster in the Sunday night poster session (S61 in the conference program) sharing the work they’ve done this summer on Sustainable Production of Xylitol from Lignocellulosic Biomass.

The research was very well received. Luke, Avery, and Mel also had the chance to visit other posters and attend research talks to learn more about applications of microbiology and the engineering of alternative (ideally more sustainable!) ways to make food, fuels, and chemicals.
