Misti Duvall is a visiting assistant professor at Boston College Law School, where she teaches Law Practice I and II. Her writing on law and narrative and legal writing pedagogy has appeared or is forthcoming in Legal Writing and Legal Communication and Rhetoric, and she is an assistant editor for Legal Writing. Prior to joining BC Law, Duvall was the writing specialist at Columbia Law School; she also taught First-Year Legal Writing at Fordham Law School and served as a 1L writing support specialist at Brooklyn Law School.
Before transitioning into academia, Duvall spent a decade practicing environmental and human rights law in the U.S. and Southeast Asia. She began her career as a legal fellow with EarthRights International, then provided legal education and advocacy support to local environmental organizations in Southeast Asia. Duvall went on to represent state and local government agencies regarding Clean Air Act policy and implementation as a staff associate at the National Association of Clean Air Agencies, and advocated for water quality protections as a staff attorney at Riverkeeper. She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, M.F.A. in creative writing from City College of New York, and B.A. from the University of Tennessee.
