John Hanify

Profile

John Hanify has tried dozens of jury and non-jury cases on behalf of business and financial institutions in Massachusetts state and federal courts. His cases have involved federal securities laws, ERISA, lender liability, real estate developments, fiduciary duty, and mergers and acquisitions. He has appeared before federal and state agencies representing   clients in government investigations and commercial arbitrations. Hanify also has served clients in mediations and facilitated case assessments for clients seeking alternatives to litigation. He has been recognized as a leading business trial lawyer in Massachusetts.

At the start of his career, Hanify served as an Assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts, where he defended the constitutionality of various federal statutes and challenges to the Defense Department's phased array early warning systems. For these and other assignments, Hanify received the Justice Department's Outstanding Performance Award.

Hanify has been ranked by Chambers USA  as among the top commercial litigators in Boston and has been named in The Best Lawyers in America and Massachusetts Super Lawyers  for many years. 

He has written and lectured on topics involving business   litigation and corporate risk management. He also has taught NITA negotiation   and mediation skills programs. Hanify has served as a Fellow of the American,   Boston, and Massachusetts Bar Foundations; former member, Council of the   Boston Bar Association; member of the Dean's Advisory Council, Boston College   Law School; and recipient of its Kenealy Award for Outstanding Alumni   Service.
