Eagle Volunteers is a high-impact, low-commitment, no application, volunteer opportunity dedicated to service at nearby elementary schools. Members volunteer both during the school day and in after-school programs, assisting children with homework, engaging with them at recess, and providing meaningful assistance to the schools’ teachers. We provide students with the opportunity to engage in impactful service while building lasting connections with their community.
Program Details
- Complete the interest form. Choose from a variety of days, times, and locations that match your interests and availability. (See placement tab below).
- Attend one introductory meeting each semester.
- Attend weekly service. Once you have chosen the placement that works best for you, we ask you to plan your schedule accordingly.
- Optional socials/community programming (see Community tab for details)
Service can be a wonderful opportunity to build community, but we know that in Eagle Volunteers, not all volunteers are at service on the same days or times. We host socials throughout the semester to give volunteers the opportunity to get to know the leadership team and each other. Examples of socials we have held include:
- Name tag making (to be worn to service)
- Halloween movie and pumpkin decorating
- Ice cream social
- “Indoor recess” activities like arts & crafts, bracelet making, etc.
- And more!
Eagle Volunteers currently have the opportunity to serve at one of two elementary schools: Mount Alvernia Academy or the Thomas A. Edison K-8 School. Volunteers are free to select which of these two locations they prefer, and if you have no preference, we can place you randomly!
Mount Alvernia Academy:
MAA is a private, independent, Catholic school that educates students from preschool through grade 6. Class sizes are typically on the smaller side, with an average class size of 16 students.
Location: 20 Manet Road, Chestnut Hill (directly across from BC’s main entrance)
Opportunities: General classroom, music or technology room volunteers, gym or recess assistants,
Days/Times: Mt. Alvernia offers placements throughout the school day and after school. Times range from 40 minutes to up to 3 hours after school.
Thomas A. Edison K-8 School:
Thomas A. Edison K-8 School is our other volunteer placement location. Edison is a local public school that works with students in kindergarten through 8th grade. Eagles can expect each class to include about 19 students.
Location: 60 Glenmont Rd, Brighton, MA (less than a mile walk from lower campus). This location is a bit farther from central campus, so it is optimal for larger breaks between classes.
Opportunities: K-8 classrooms, including K1 inclusion classrooms designed for multilingual students or those with learning disabilities who could benefit from more support in the classroom.
Days/Times: Varied
