In November Irish Studies collaborated with African and African Diaspora Studies to host a student led webinar ‘What’s Next? Race, Protest and Justice After the Election’. Boston City Councillor Matt O’Malley, social justice leader and MIT lecturer Malia Lazu and Professor Reuel Rogers a political scientist from Northwestern University were interviewed by students from the two programs and addressed the challenges that confront the country in 2021 and beyond. BC seniors Angelina Vellejo and Czar Sepe moderated an informative seminar that addressed a series of issues including racial justice, police reform and popular protest in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election. Irish Studies and African and African Diaspora Studies are planning additional initiatives during the spring semester that will be posted on social media platforms. Both programs are working to host another student led webinar that will address police reform later this semester. Details will follow.
