Statement of the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy
Democracy and the rule of law are foundational principles of the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Policy. As such, we condemn the violent, disrespectful, and shameful actions of those who acted on January 6, 2021 with the intent of preventing the peaceful transition of governmental power and those who incited such actions.
Despite the disgraceful actions of so many, democracy seems to have prevailed. But many challenges remain. We aim to inspire and encourage law students to become public servants as part of the core mission of the Rappaport Center. We applaud those members of Congress who upheld their oaths of office and worked to protect our democracy, and support efforts to hold accountable those who attempted to obstruct adherence to state and federal law and to the United States Constitution.
These difficult days serve to remind us that the Rappaport Center’s commitment to respectful discourse and democratic ideals remains more important than ever.
