A Message From the Rappaport Center About the Chauvin Trial

We at the Rappaport Center applaud the jury verdict in the Chauvin trial as correct on the law and the facts. We view the events in court as a step towards justice for George Floyd and his family, as a reaffirmation of the jury system, and as a positive milestone for the rule of law itself.  But we also recognize that there is much, much more to be done in the days ahead. In the wake of so many deaths and so much heartache, we stand in solidarity with George Floyd’s family, with our students, faculty, and staff of color, and with the countless others who have endured centuries of indescribable pain and oppression as a result of racism. Even as we celebrate this victory in court, we will continue to work to discern and to dismantle the many effects and legacies of racism in all of its forms.
