Jon Mellis

Profile

Jon is the General Counsel & Secretary at Day & Zimmermann, Government Services. As General Counsel, Mellis is responsible for the mission-critical legal, contracts, and compliance counsel provided to executive leadership, D&Z's Government Services Division, and customers.

With leadership and expertise in all areas of the government sector, including cyber security, Mellis has extensive government and private sector experience. He most recently was Assistant General Counsel at VMware, Inc., in Reston, Virginia. He also served as Associate General Counsel at Lockheed Martin Corp. and Assistant General Counsel at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Mellis is a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves, who previously served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps for the U.S. Navy.  Mellis taught classes at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, RI, and the Naval Justice School, Newport, RI.

Mellis received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Johns Hopkins University and Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University. He also holds a Masters of Arts Degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in Security Studies and a Certificate in Cybersecurity Strategy from Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies.
