James R. Repetti

William J. Kenealy, S.J., Professor

Profile

The inaugural holder of the William J. Kenealy, S.J. Chair, James Repetti teaches courses in individual income tax, corporate tax, partnership tax, and international tax. He is co-author of the texts, Partnership Income Taxation (West Academic)Introduction to United States International Taxation (Wolters Kluwer)Federal Wealth Transfer Taxation (West Academic), and Tax Aspects of Organizing and Operating a Business (MCLE). He is also a contributing author to the treatises, Comparative Income Taxation: A Structural Analysis (Wolters Kluwer) and The International Guide to Partnerships (IBFD).

Repetti's numerous influential articles on taxation include International Tax Policy's Harm to Manufacturing and National Interests” (Wisconsin Law Review),The Appropriate Roles for Equity and Efficiency in a Progressive Individual Income Tax”" (Florida Tax Review), "Democracy and Opportunity: A New Paradigm in Tax Equity" (Vanderbilt Law Review), and "Democracy, Taxes and Wealth" (NYU Law Review).

Repetti is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and is the former chair of the Executive Committee of the Tax Section of the American Association of Law Schools. He holds a peer review “AV Preeminent” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating available to lawyers. He has acted as a consultant to the U.S. Senate, Internal Revenue Service and Justice Department, and has appeared as a commentator in publications such as Bloomberg, Washington Post, Marketplace, Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, Forbes Magazine, Wall Street Journal and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. Prior to joining the faculty, he practiced law at Ropes & Gray and subsequently served as counsel to Hill & Barlow.

Repetti was featured as a “Master Teacher” in the Boston College Magazine, and Law School students from all three classes voted him to be the first recipient of an award for excellence in teaching. He has also served Boston College in a number of capacities, including as the Associate Dean of Academics for the Law School, Chair of the Law School Appointments Committee, member of the University Provost Search Committee, and member of the Law School Dean Search Committee.
