Jack Lu

Judge Jack Lu (ret.) is the principal of Essex Mediation and Arbitration, LLC, and was a Massachusetts Superior Court judge for 16 years and a Boston Municipal Court judge for five years. From 2014 to 2018 he chaired the Massachusetts Sentencing Commission in promulgating the first overhaul of the Massachusetts Sentencing Guidelines in 21 years. Judge Lu has participated in many initiatives on sentencing.

Judge Lu is an experienced teacher, having taught at New England Law, Boston, Boston University School of Law, and the University of Massachusetts Lowell where he received the 2021 Haskell Distinguished Teaching Award, based 100% on student nominations. Judge Lu continues to teach at the University of Massachusetts Lowell School of Criminology and Justice Studies.

Judge Lu was formerly a faculty member at the National Judicial College, and had an intensive trial practice as an attorney. He graduated from the Boston University School of Law and Johns Hopkins University, and has a new shelter dog from Texas, Keko.
