The Threshold seminar promotes interconnections in faculty work lives by sharing research across disciplinary boundaries. The goal is to make time for conversation and reflections about leadership, scholarly collaboration, the understanding of, and engagement with, the mission and identity of the university, and the process toward full-professorship. All of this occurs in the context of a collegial interdisciplinary dialogue. Recently tenured faculty members are invited to the seminar with the hopes of building on research success and expanding the capacity for intellectual community.
Within the atmosphere of academic freedom and colleagueship, the seminar hopes for and welcomes the participation of colleagues from a range of faith traditions, as well as those of no faith tradition. This program is open to all members of the faculty who received tenure within the last five years. The seminar was proposed by a group of faculty members across the university who participated pre-tenure in the Junior Scholars in Conversation program, where they found that building interdisciplinary relationships enhanced their individual work and their collective participation in the life of the university.
