Retreats
The Center for Ignatian Spirituality organizes retreats that make available the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola in appropriate forms to faculty, administrators, and staff, and that support individuals and groups in their own spiritual journies.

Stay tuned for future retreat dates.
Dates for 2022 - 2023 will be listed soon.
We want to invite you to a self-directed retreat, with roots in the Ignatian tradition, that we call Breathe DIY. On this do-it-yourself retreat, each participant will decide what they want to do, where they want to go, and how they are going to do it.
Sounds vague?
Well, let’s call it flexible. Breathe DIY will start with an initial lunch gathering on [date - TBD] at 12:00pm to meet other participants, and a final lunch gathering to share your experience on [date - TBD] at 12:00pm. Between both gatherings, you will have the opportunity to craft your ideal, personalized half-day retreat and bring it to fruition. More importantly, we will reimburse you for meals, supplies, or transportation costs you accrue that day.
What kind of a retreat?
Well, that depends on you… Perhaps what you need is to disconnect, relax and rest; or spend quality time with your family or friend; or to carve out extra time to reflect on a research project with which you are struggling. It is in your hands to determine what to do during that half-day.If you are intrigued, but at a loss of what you’d plan for yourself, we are here to help. After you register, we will provide a simple questionnaire to help you verbalize what you need and will be available to answer any questions.

What are examples of ways I can spend the days and where to go?
The opportunities are endless, but we invite you to think of an activity that will take you out of your usual routine. You can take the T to explore a new-to-you neighborhood of Boston, grab a coffee at your favorite cafe, sit reflectively in a park, and order from a restaurant. Or you can wake up early, drive to Gloucester, and take a long walk on the beach with your family, friend, or partner. Or you can stay home and paint, creatively write, and cook a new recipe. For guidance planning your day please see our questionnaire here and find more ideas here.
What can I get reimbursed during my half-day retreat?
We are able to reimburse transportation within Massachusetts and meals accrued during your half-day retreat. This includes mileage on your car, Zipcar rental, Uber/taxi, public transportation, or a rental bike. This also includes two meals during your half-day. We can not reimburse alcohol, gift cards, or hotels/Airbnbs. Remember to keep all your receipts and please fill out the expense report here.
Do I have to spend my half-day alone or can I include my partner, children, or friend?
We invite you to spend your half-day with whom you are called to that day. Perhaps you have been eager to have some alone time or perhaps you want this day to spend quality time with someone with whom you’d like to reconnect, and we encourage either option. We will reimburse you for their meals and please provide us their names.
