Step back, slow down, recharge.

Breathe is a half day retreat where participants get to take a break from their lives. It is a day of silence, reflection and quiet. A day to clear one’s mind and thoughts.

Participants can choose one of three options: Cohasset, Cambridge, or DIY.

Escape for a day of prayer and reflection

Overview

Intersections and The Center for Ignatian Spirituality invite you to go out and reconnect with BC colleagues in two outdoor idyllic locations:

  • The World’s End in Hingham, a private park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted with views of the Boston Skyline. It is located on a peninsula in Hingham Harbor.
  • Bellarmine House at Cohasset

Always on a Saturday, participants will meet at the entrance of the World’s End for a contemplative and individual walk at 9:30 am, and later they will drive to Cohasset for lunch and conversation. The program ends at 2:00 p.m.

This program is completely outdoors and requires participants to be up for leisurely walk.

  • Participants must provide their own transportation. We will pay for your parking pass.
  • Food will be provided individually portioned and packaged.
  • This program is limited to faculty and administrators of Boston College, their families and friends.
  • Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
  • We anticipate more interest that we will be able to safely accommodate and thus we may need a waiting list for this program. Please register as soon as you can.

If it rains, the program will be canceled. For those who have attended a Breathe before, you are welcome to come again.

Stroll the streets and clear your mind

Breathe is a program for BC faculty looking for a break in their lives from research projects and classes.

  • Breathe is flexible. Participants are able to create their own schedule for the day, based on their specific needs.
  • Breathe is structured. For those who want it, the program offers a variety of optional activities for the day.
  • Breathe is for everyone. No religious affiliation is required.

Location

Breathe takes place at the Guesthouse of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, in Cambridge. This monastic community is located at walking distance to Harvard Square, the Charles River and Mt. Create your own customized experience

Overview

Breath DIY is a self-directed retreat, with deep roots in the Ignatian tradition. On this do-it-yourself retreat, each participant will decide what they want to do, where they want to go, and how they are going to do it.

Guidelines

Breathe DIY will start with an initial lunch gathering to meet other participants, and a final lunch gathering to share your experience. Between both gatherings, you will have the opportunity to craft your ideal, personalized half-day retreat and bring it to fruition. More importantly, we will reimburse you for meals, supplies, or transportation costs you accrue that day.

What kind of a retreat? Well, that depends on you… Perhaps what you need is to disconnect, relax and rest; or concously look for a silence experience; or to carve out extra time to reflect on a research project with which you are struggling. It is in your hands to determine what to do during that half-day.

If you are intrigued, but at a loss of what you’d plan for yourself, we are here to help. After you register, we will provide a simple questionnaire to help you verbalize what you need and will be available to answer any questions.
