Testing and Move-In Appointments

This year's move-in process will be drastically different from prior years, due to the policies and precautions needed to be taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all member of the Boston College community. We ask for everyone's cooperation in helping to expedite the move-in process and to decrease the number of people in the residence halls at any given time.

The COVID-19 Testing and Move-In Appointment sign-up is now live and available to students. Students must sign-in using their BC credentials and follow the on-screen instructions. ALL students (whether during the traditional move-in time or early arrivals) will need to sign-up for a COVID-19 Testing and Move-In Appointment time by August 15. Your move-in slot will correspond with your COVID-19 testing appointment. You will not be able to move into your room without first being tested. Specific details on the testing location and the testing and health check app will be forthcoming.

How to Move-In

Park at the space designated by Residential Life (Specific parking information will be emailed prior to move-in). For those given a parking location at a residence hall, a parent, family member, or friend accompanying the student may begin unloading as space allows. For those given an alternative parking location, the parent, family member, or friend accompanying the student should proceed to the designated parking space and wait for the student to return from their COVID-19 test and then proceed to the residence hall for unloading.  If students are arriving via ride-share, they may drop belongings off at the designated cart check-out location for their area.

While your parent, family member, or friend remains with your belongings, you will proceed to your designated testing area to be tested for COVID-19. Only Boston College students will be allowed entry into the testing sites. Students will receive more information regarding specific testing locations in the coming weeks.

After you have been tested and received your wristband, proceed to the residence hall check-in site located near the testing location.

Upon checking into the residence halls, you will receive a ticket to receive meals from BC Dining during your quarantine period. Follow the signs to the BC Dining location near the check-in area to retrieve your meals. Food delivery to residence halls is prohibited during your quarantine period.

Return to your building to move your belongings into your room. During the move-in period, students will only be permitted to have one guest enter the building with them to help with the move-in process. This is designated to limit the number of people in the residence hall stairwells, elevators, and hallways. We ask that students move-in as quickly as possible and complete the process within 60-90 minutes.

Once your vehicle is unloaded and all items are in the residence hall, vehicles must be moved away from the residence hall unloading areas. Parking is available on the Newton or Brighton campuses, or one of the garages on main campus. To help de-densify residence halls and minimize risk to both students and parents, we ask that parents or other move-in helpers depart campus as soon as possible.

Important Move-In Reminders

  • During the Transition Periods, which include Fall Opening, Boston College modifies its alcohol policy for residential students. This policy is in effect until Saturday, August 29. Violations of these policies will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct.

    • NO alcohol is permitted within residence halls, regardless of age

    • Students cannot be in the presence of or under the influence of alcohol while on-campus, regardless of age

  • As a reminder from the Residency Agreement addendum that you signed: Events, functions, or other gatherings in or outside the residence halls are prohibited unless coordinated or approved by the Office of Residential Life or a designated campus partner. This includes all registered and unregistered social gatherings and parties inside or adjacent to the residence halls.

  • Students arriving outside of their appointment time may not be able to check-in and move-in until the next available time slot.  We cannot stress enough the importance of adhering to scheduled times.

  • Students should label all belongings and boxes with their full name, building, and room number prior to arrival so that no items are misplaced.

  • All students and their guests must bring AND wear a mask at all times when in rooms, common spaces (halls, elevators, at check-in locations, stairwells, etc), as well as when walking across campus.

  • Until they have received notice that their tests are negative, all students will be required to quarantine in place in their residence hall room or off-campus housing. This quarantine in place will include strict protocols for wearing face coverings and very limited movement.
