Students eligible to keep a car on campus are required to register their vehicles with the University and display a valid BC parking permit decal on the windshield. Permits may be picked up at Student Services in Lyons Hall (Room 103). Please note: Undergraduate parking at BC is very limited, and first-year and sophmore classes are not eligible for parking permits.
All vehicles, including undergraduate resident permit vehicles, must be off campus by 11 p.m. the evening prior to scheduled home football games. Vehicles remaining on the Chestnut Hill campus after midnight will be towed. Students with resident permitted vehicles (SRF/SR2, TSR-2, and SGS-2) may park on the Newton Campus for home football games.
Student Permits
All student permit-holders are expected to read and comply with Boston College parking and traffic regulations, and may be required to relocate their vehicles due to special events or snow. Be sure to monitor your BC email for any communication regarding restricted parking.
Learn more about the eligibility requirements for each permit type below.
Permit type: SRF/SR-2 or SCA/SCA-2
Eligible students: Overnight undergraduate student permits are only available to juniors and seniors living on campus and receiving academic credit required for graduation through a Boston College sponsored field practicum, clinical, or three-credit internship in areas not accessible by public transportation. Confirmation from the practicum office or program administrator is required.
The allotted spaces are very limited and parking location is assigned based on availability. Students with jobs off campus are expected to use public transportation.
First-year and sophomore students are not eligible for a parking permit unless granted a medical accommodation by the Office of Disability Services.
How to apply: Eligible students in these programs must request approval from their administrator, which will be sent to the Transportation & Parking office prior to the start of the semester. Once they are approved for a permit, students will receive an email from the Transportation & Parking office with instructions on how to register their vehicle and when to pick up their permit sticker from Student Services in Lyons Hall. Student permits are billed to the student account.
Permit type: Commuter (SC)
Eligible students: Commuter permits (SC) are available to undergraduate students living off campus at a radius greater than one mile from public transportation lines. Students living in the following cities or towns do not meet this commuter distance requirement and will not qualify for a commuter parking permit:
- Allston
- Boston
- Brighton
- Brookline
- Chestnut Hill
Students are expected to use their personal academic-year address, not the address of a family or friend, when applying for a parking permit. Those failing to honestly provide an accurate academic-year address for parking permit application risk disciplinary action, including loss of parking privileges at Boston College without a refund.
How to apply: At time of application, an undergraduate commuter student must submit to the Office of Student Services:
- Commuter Permit application (download a PDF version of the application)
- Proof of Insurance listing the student as an insured driver of the registered vehicle
- Vehicle registration in the undergraduate student's name or that of an immediate family member
- Proof of qualifying residency in the undergraduate's name, such as a lease, bank statement, or utility bill
Permit type: SGS
Eligible students: SGS Permits are available to students currently enrolled in any of Boston College's graduate programs or the Boston College Law School. This permit type allows all-day parking from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
How to apply: Students may register for a permit at any point in the semester via Agora Portal > Accounts and Personal Infomation > Parking Permits & Citations.
Permit type: S-E
Eligible students: S-E Evening permits are available to students currently enrolled in the Woods College of Advancing Studies or in any of Boston College's graduate programs. This permit type allows parking on campus only after 3 p.m.
How to apply: Students may register for a permit at any point in the semester via Agora Portal > Accounts and Personal Infomation > Parking Permits & Citations.
Permit type: POOL
Eligible students: Carpool permits are available to graduate and law school students who commute together throughout the year. The goal of the carpool permit is to reduce the number of vehicles on campus with the incentive of getting access to reserved areas for a reduced cost.
How to apply: To register for a carpool permit, both individuals must bring both vehicle registrations in person to the Office of Student Services in Lyons Hall and one permit will be assigned to the account.

Nonresident Student Drivers
State law requires Boston College to post the following notice to all students who are not Massachusetts residents:
It is unlawful for a nonresident student to fail to file a nonresident driver statement with the police department located in the same city or town as the school of college attended, in accordance with Section 3 of Chapter 90 of the Massachusetts general laws. Failure to file such statement is punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.
Under Massachusetts law, if out-of-state students bring cars to campus, but choose not to register the car with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, then they must file a nonresident driver statement with the local police department. Regardless of whether or not they apply for on-campus parking, they are required to register as a nonresident driver. After filing the nonresident driver statement with the Transportation and Parking office, students will receive the nonresident student driver decal. This sticker is not valid for parking on Boston College's campus or within the Boston City Limits.
This decal must be prominently displayed in the uppermost center portion of the vehicle’s windshield.
Out of State Decal Application
Boston College students living in Boston City limits should contact The City of Boston's Transportation Department for information on resident parking.
