I am using my outdoor walks as an opportunity to learn to identify different tree species and to think about how important trees are to our health and that of the planet. For the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, I co-curated an online art exhibition, Honoring Trees, a reflection on the splendor of trees, the challenges climate change and human stresses pose to trees, and the opportunity we have to rebuild our global tree canopy as we strive to fashion a better, post-pandemic world for our children and grandchildren. Visit the exhibition!

Being at home with a 3.5 and 1.5 year old has its fun challenges in a quarantined life. I did not expect home schooling to be one of them- Grayson is in pre-school! Sure enough, when they rolled out the online curriculum, they sent us our new schedule and a way to pick up a laptop if we needed one! One of our main goals throughout this all has been to get outside! There is lots of juggling going on to make it happen, but we all feel so much better when we do not matter what the weather. Chad and I have been keeping up with our running to keep us sane. My parents and I decided to self-quarantine together early on, and we have been so fortunate to have them to lean on during this time.

Thankfully, we are all healthy in my family and doing our part to stay at home and social distance. We are fortunate to have all our adult children under one roof. We have occupied our time with many family walks together and have attempted to learn something new. In this case, we took a painting class together and everyone showed their artistic talent.

I was an example of the old joke, “My favorite thing to make for dinner is reservations!” During these last weeks, I have made homemade spaghetti with a pasta machine that I ordered from Amazon, chicken soup, gnocchi, and chicken thighs.... when Instacart substituted chicken thighs for the chicken breasts I really wanted! Life is good! Xo

Candy O’Terry ’79
After spending 25 years on the radio, I got my own production company called My Dove Productions and I create inspiring content which requires constant recording, editing, and shooting. As a way of giving stressed-out Moms and Dads a break during the pandemic, I created a YouTube video series called Candy's Land for young children ages 3-6. As a former pre-school teacher and a recording artist, I've got tons of songs, creative movement and positive messages for children during the pandemic.
