In order to conserve energy and help avoid freeze-ups, the Office of Engineering and Energy Management at Boston College offers a few quick and easy steps for members of the University community to take before leaving campus for the break:

  • Turn off items that consume electricity, such as lights, individual coffee makers, hot/cold water bubbler stations, printers, and copiers;
  • Unplug chargers and other electronic equipment;
  • Shut down computers;
  • Close all windows;
  • Where possible, close blinds and curtains in offices, classrooms, and dorm rooms;
  • In offices with thermostats, lower the setting to 65 degrees, but do not shut off heat.

Small efforts collectively result in big savings and help avoid winter weather damage. Every effort is appreciated!
