University Health Services has reported a decrease in positive COVID-19 cases during the seventh week of spring semester testing, March 15-21, continuing a successful pattern in controlling the spread of the coronavirus.
Through March 19, UHS reported a total of 33 positive COVID-19 cases, including 29 undergraduates, out of 12,079 tests conducted. The University’s weekly community positivity rate stands at 0.27%. The City of Newton’s weekly positivity rate is 0.46%. The state’s weekly community positivity rate is 1.83%.
Currently, there are 48 BC undergraduates in isolation—37 in University isolation housing and 11 recovering at home. A total of 800 undergraduates have recovered and returned to normal activities.
Since testing began on August 16, University Health Services has conducted a total of 255,036 tests of BC community members with 1,003 positive cases reported. Among the total were 190,482 undergraduate tests with 848 positives. The University’s cumulative positivity rate is 0.39%.
By comparison, Boston University has reported 1,715 positive cases, including 1,222 students; Northeastern University experienced 1,486 cases, including 1,228 students; and University of Massachusetts-Amherst has had 2,281 positives, including 2,131 students.
Asymptomatic testing continues at Boston College Mondays through Thursdays in the MAC Courts in the Margot Connell Recreation Center. Symptomatic testing continues each day. Test results are posted each weekday on the Reopening Boston College website.
