University Health Services has reported a continued decrease in positive COVID-19 cases during the sixth week of spring semester testing, March 8-14.

Through March 12, UHS reported a total of 35 positive COVID-19 cases, including 30 undergraduates, out of 13,130 tests conducted. The University’s weekly community positivity rate stands at 0.26%.The City of Newton’s current weekly positivity rate is 0.54%. The state’s weekly community positivity rate is 1.72%

Currently, there are 51 BC undergraduates in isolation—38 in University isolation housing and 13 recovering at home. A total of 766 undergraduates have recovered and returned to normal activities.

Since testing began on August 16, University Health Services has conducted a total of 242,565 tests of BC community members with 968 positive cases reported. Among the total were 180,426 undergraduate tests with 817 positives. The University’s cumulative positivity rate is 0.39%.

By comparison, Boston University has reported 1,642 positive cases, including 1,168 students; Northeastern University experienced 1,446 cases, including 1,192 students; and University of Massachusetts-Amherst has had 2,207 positives, including 2,062 students. 

“We continued to witness a decrease in positive cases this week,” said Dr. Doug Comeau, Director of University Health Services. “While we are pleased with the results, we ask all members of the BC community need to remain vigilant to help continue this downward trend.”

Asymptomatic testing continues at Boston College Mondays through Thursdays in the MAC Courts in the Margot Connell Recreation Center. Test results are posted each weekday on the Reopening Boston College website.
