University Health Services (UHS) has reported a continued decrease in positive COVID-19 cases during the third week of spring semester testing, February 22-28.

Through February 26, UHS reported a total of 31 positive COVID-19 cases, including 25 undergraduates, out of 12,512 tests conducted. The University’s weekly community positivity rate stands at 0.24%.The City of Newton’s current positivity rate is 0.66%. The state’s weekly community positivity rate is 2.0%

Currently, there are 60 BC undergraduates in isolation—45 in University isolation housing and 15 recovering at home. A total of 690 undergraduates have recovered and returned to normal activities.

Since testing began on August 16, University Health Services has conducted a total of 216,533 tests of BC community members with 893 positive cases reported. Among the total were 159,326 undergraduate tests with 750 positives. The University’s cumulative positivity rate is 0.4%.

By comparison, Boston University has reported 1,521 positive cases, including 1,067 students; Northeastern University has had 1,322 cases, including 1,078 students; and University of Massachusetts-Amherst has had 1,873 positives, including 1,739 students. 

“We continued to witness a decrease in positive cases this week,” said Dr. Doug Comeau, Director of University Health Services. “While we are pleased with the results, we all need to remain vigilant to continue this downward trend.”

Asymptomatic testing continues at Boston College Mondays through Thursdays in the MAC Courts in the Margot Connell Recreation Center. Test results are posted each weekday on the Reopening Boston College website.
