University Health Services (UHS) reported a continued decrease in positive cases this week following a spike in cases that occurred during the opening weeks of the spring semester.

Through today, UHS reported a total of 20 positive COVID-19 cases for the week of February 22-28, including 18 undergraduates, out of 6,252 tests conducted. The University’s weekly community positivity rate stands at 0.3%. The state’s weekly community positivity rate is 2.0%.

Currently, there are 93 BC undergraduates in isolation—68 in University isolation housing and 25 recovering at home. A total of 650 undergraduates have recovered and returned to normal activities.

Since testing began on August 16, University Health Services has conducted a total of 210,293 tests of BC community members with 882 positive cases reported. Among the total were 154,647 undergraduate tests with 743 positives. The University’s cumulative positivity rate is 0.4%.

By comparison, Boston University has reported 1,473 positive cases, including 1,030 students; Northeastern University has had 1,304 cases, including 1,062 students; and University of Massachusetts-Amherst has had 1,833 positives, including 1,701 students. 

“We are seeing encouraging signs on campus, but we need all members of the BC community to remain vigilant in preventing the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Doug Comeau, Director of University Health Services.

Asymptomatic testing continues Monday-Thursday in the MAC Courts in the Margot Connell Recreation Center. Test results are posted weekdays on the Reopening Boston College website.
