Presenter:  Margaret Eletta Guider, O.S.F.

As communities of faith throughout the world grapple with the factors that contribute to sexual abuse, much of the discourse on the subject focuses on analyses of power relations, socio-cultural conditions, and psychological pathologies. In this lecture, Sr. Guider turns attention on an attribution theory that is lacking in many Catholic circles: critical theological reflection on the mystery of evil.  reflects on how would the circumstances in the Church today differ if the issue of clerical sexual abuse had originally been understood by ministry leaders as connected to the larger context of sexual abuse, named it as evil, and responded with attention, intercession, intervention, and prevention.
