Presenter: Thomas H. Groome, chair, STM Department of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry, and professor of theology and religious education.

The General Directory for Catechesis states that the primary purpose of catechesis is "to put people in communion and intimacy with Jesus Christ."  Of course, the primordial catechetical means of such encounter is through the Gospels.  But how does one teach the Scriptures in such a way that students come to a personal relationship with Jesus, that beyond “learning about” Jesus they also come to embrace his call to discipleship?  This presentation proposes such a pedagogy of encounter and commitment.
