Can my student move in early to their residence hall?
Early arrivals require advanced approval, and they are limited to certain approved groups (i.e., BC Bands, Emerging Leader Program, preseason sports) and individuals with approved early-arrival requests. Individual early-arrival requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but please be aware that most applications will not be approved and there will be an early-arrival fee of $85/night prior to the residence halls opening. Given this, we ask that students plan to arrive within their regular move-in time.
What does check-in look like on move-in day?
For first-year students, move in will occur on Thursday, August 21, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and they will need to sign up for a specific move-in time on that day. Check-in will occur at each student’s assigned residence hall, and first-year students will be greeted by our Welcome Wagon student volunteers, who will assist with moving their belongings into the residence halls.

What can my student bring or not bring to their residence hall?
The Residential Life Office provides a suggested packing list for all students, available on BC’s First-Year Student Housing webpage, linked here. This webpage provides an in-depth overview of our prohibited items, but some key things to know include that we do not permit students to bring non-University mattresses or furniture, cooking equipment with external heating elements, air conditioning units, or space heaters.
Can my student get involved in community activities (or is there any programming available to my student) in the residence halls?
Can my student get involved in community activities (or is there any programming available to my student) in the residence halls?Yes! Our Resident Assistants are one of many resources available to your student in their residence hall, and they coordinate a number of social and educational programs for hall residents to attend and participate in. Resident Assistants are full-time students who live in the residence halls and are responsible for its residents, so attending their community events is a wonderful way for students to meet others on their floor as well as within their residential community.
What if my student does not get along with their roommate or needs support?
If a student has any concerns with their room or roommate or needs supportplease be aware that we have both Resident Assistants and Resident Directors available in the halls to help. Resident Directors are professional staff members who livewithin the halls, and they are a great resource for students who may be facing residential or personal concerns. Information about each hall’s respective Resident Director and/or Area Coordinator is accessible via the Office of Residential Life’s Meet the Staff webpage.
For my incoming first-year student, are we able to send packages to BC prior to move-in?
Upon receiving housing assignments from Residential Life, first-year students can begin shipping packages to BC. For students who will be living on Newton Campus or Upper Campus, large packages (minimum 2 cu ft) arriving by August 16 will be placed directly into their rooms. In-room delivery is limited to six packages. Therefore, we ask that students send only essential items in the first few weeks of August.
