Devlin Hall was evacuated at approximately 1 p.m. today due to smoke caused by an issue with an electrical control box within the building’s elevator shaft.
Newton Fire Department and BC Police responded to the scene. There were no injuries. Staff from BC Facilities worked to ventilate the building, which Newton Fire cleared to reopen at 1:40 pm.
Stanley Electric remains on scene to inspect the elevator, which will remain off limits for the remainder of the day.
