This summer, students can explore new interests, accelerate their degree progress, or stay on track for graduation by taking advantage of any of the many opportunities for academic credit or enrichment available through the expanded Boston College Summer Session.

And some of them can do it from home.

Boston College Summer Session offers a wide array of classroom-based courses—including new options in music and theater—as well as a number of hybrid courses (blending traditional and online learning) and fully online, for-credit undergraduate courses for the convenience of students who need or want to take a course while they are away from campus.

Plus, two-week study away domestic programs provide an alternative travel experience for students unable to take a semester abroad.

Boston College Summer Session offers an array of classroom-based programs; hybrid courses that blend traditional and online learning; and fully online, for-credit undergraduate courses, for the convenience of students who need or want to take a course while away from campus.

With small class sizes that offer more faculty interaction, Summer Session is an ideal opportunity for students to advance on an academic or career path while developing their interests. And BC's summer offerings can satisfy many college and university course requirements.

Summer Summer is open to BC students currently enrolled in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, Carroll School of Management, Lynch School of Education, Connell School of Nursing, and Woods College of Advancing Studies; courses also are open to non-BC students.

Subject areas range from accounting to theology, and include some unique, distinctive,  and interesting courses offered exclusively in summer, says Summer Session Director Dee Masiello.

The varying methods of course delivery are designed to accommodate students' changing needs. Faculty for the online courses include recipients of BC's Dean of Summer Session Teaching Fellowships, which are open to fifth year doctoral students in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, and offered in conjunction with the Office of the Provost and the Morrissey College.

"The online courses meet the same standards for academic rigor, objectives, and outcomes as any other BC course," says Masiello. "They also create amazing opportunities for students to interact with faculty and with one another."

A two-week study away domestic program provides an alternative travel experience for students unable to take a semester abroad.

Also enhancing BC Summer Session is a Study Away Domestic Program: a two-week, eight-hour-per-day experience offered in the first and second terms that provides BC students with three credits toward an elective, with departmental approval.

"Building Sustainable Communities" introduces students to the strategies that practitioners are using, and, through field visits in Boston and Detroit, shows them first-hand how urban agriculture and community food systems are transforming cities.

With small class sizes that offer more faculty interaction, Summer Session is an ideal opportunity for students to advance on an academic or career path while developing their interests.

BC Summer Session curriculum also includes graduate courses, as well as the Boston College Experience, which provides high school students the chance to live and learn on campus.

Boston College Summer Session offers a wide variety of undergraduate courses, which run over two six-week periods: The first in 2019 will run from May 14 - June 21; the second from June 24 - August 2.
