FACHEX is an undergraduate tuition remission option for children of current full time faculty, administrators, and staff at participating Jesuit Colleges and Universities.

The dependent of a current employee of Boston College is considered an "outgoing student."

Through the FACHEX program, current employees who qualify for the tuition remission benefit for their children at Boston College (traditionally by completing at least five (5) years of continuous full-time service) can apply to receive the same benefit at a participating Jesuit University if their child meets that school's requirements for FACHEX applicants, and there is an award available. It is important to realize, however, that FACHEX awards are highly competitive in terms of both academic selectivity and availability. As a result, there are NO guarantees to any faculty or staff member that their child will be awarded the FACHEX benefit at the institution of their choice.

Special Note: If you are a current employee of Boston College, and your child wishes to come to BC, that process is covered through the standard Tuition Remission process, not FACHEX. Please view details on Tuition Remission in the Boston College Employee Handbook.

Are the children of all Boston College employees eligible for FACHEX consideration?
<p>Any current employee who is eligible for the Child Tuition Remission benefit at Boston College is eligible to have their child considered for a potential FACHEX award at a participating institution.  This benefit traditionally requires five (5) or more years of continuous full-time service.  If you are uncertain about your employment history or eligibility, please contact the Benefits Office (<a href="mailto:benefits&#64;bc.edu">benefits&#64;bc.edu</a>) for clarification.</p>

As an employee, am I eligible for a FACHEX award for myself?
<p>No, the FACHEX program (both incoming and outgoing) is only available to the children of current and eligible faculty and staff members.&nbsp; There is no adult exchange program offered for faculty or staff members themselves, or their spouses.</p>

Can you advise me on which school my child should attend or what academic program they should study?
<p>Boston College does not provide generalized admission counseling, nor maintain academic program information about any of the participating schools.&nbsp; We suggest that you either contact the schools directly or view their websites.&nbsp; There are also college profiles and major selection information available through outside companies such as the College Board or you can consult the guidance counselor at your child’s high school.</p>

Could my child be considered for FACHEX eligibility if I have not yet been employed at Boston College for five (5) years?
<p>Typically, they will not be considered for a FACHEX award.  In the event you become eligible for the Child Tuition Remission benefit at Boston College after your child has been accepted as a first-year student or completed their first year of college at a different school, you must contact the coordinator at the desired participating FACHEX institution at that time to see if it is still possible for your child to apply for FACHEX consideration.  Many schools only extend new FACHEX award offers to incoming first-year students.  The only exception to this might be a parent who would be eligible for FACHEX consideration by September of the year the student would be enrolled.  In this case, a certification might be granted, but at the discretion of the Benefits Office (benefits&#64;bc.edu), who you should consult with first if you have any question about your service dates.  You should also consult with the Benefits Office (benefits&#64;bc.edu) if you feel you have unique circumstances that would fall outside of this definition.<br /> </p>

Do I apply for FACHEX certification if my child wants to apply to attend Boston College?
<p>No, you apply for FACHEX certification if your child wants to apply to attend any of the 25 other Jesuit colleges/universities participating in the FACHEX program.&nbsp; If your child wants to attend Boston College, you would look into Child Tuition Remission.&nbsp; Please do not include Boston College as one of your FACHEX schools.</p>

Does Boston College participate in Tuition Exchange?
<p>No.&nbsp; Although the FACHEX program across all AJCU participating institutions utilizes the Tuition Exchange Database for FACHEX certifications, Boston College does not participate in the Tuition Exchange program.&nbsp; We only offer FACHEX.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-15
If my child is a FACHEX award recipient, may the award be used to cover study abroad or summer classes?
<p>While it is typically unlikely for the FACHEX award to be used to cover study abroad or summer classes, each school sets their own policies on these scenarios so you should check with the FACHEX Coordinator at that school to find out.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-17
If my child receives a FACHEX award at a participating school, but needs to take a leave of absence, is it possible for them to receive their FACHEX award upon their return?
<p>It may not be possible because the FACHEX award, if offered, usually only covers four (4) years of continuous full-time undergraduate study.&nbsp; You should consult with the FACHEX Coordinator at your child’s school and follow their guidelines.&nbsp; It is important that you contact them as soon as possible.&nbsp; Each school's policies and practices are different and Boston College cannot advise you on another school’s policy.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-11
If my child receives a FACHEX award, do I have to reapply each year?
<p>Normally, you will not need to reapply, but you should check with the FACHEX Coordinator at the receiving school to see their policy regarding FACHEX renewals.&nbsp; Traditionally, if your child receives a FACHEX award, it will be automatically renewed on an annual basis provided the student continues to attend on a full-time basis the school who offered the FACHEX award and the parent maintains their respective employment/FACHEX eligibility at their home institution.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-18
Is FACHEX an automatic exchange?
<p>No, each school makes its own determination regarding how many children it can extend FACHEX awards to and there is no guarantee to any employee at any Jesuit college or university that their child will be able to utilize the benefit at the school of their choice.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-10
Is there a deadline to apply for FACHEX consideration?
<p>Yes, participating schools have designated December 1st as the last date most will accept certification in the Tuition Exchange Database.&nbsp; For this reason, you should have your FACHEX Certification Form submitted before this deadline to allow time for processing and data entry.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-16
Is there anything Boston College can do in the event I miss the FACHEX deadline and the school my child wishes to attend will not accept a late certification via the Tuition Exchange Database?
<p>Unfortunately, Boston College is unable to assist in the event you fail to follow the certification process or fail to meet the established deadlines of the program.&nbsp; You can try to petition your child’s desired school, but we have not seen this yield any benefits in the past.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-08
May my child apply for FACHEX as an upperclassman or transfer student?
<p>Most schools only accept FACHEX applications from incoming first-year students.&nbsp; You should check with the FACHEX Coordinator at the desired school(s) to see if this is possible before attempting certification.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-04
May my child apply for FACHEX for graduate school?
<p>No, FACHEX is only available for four (4) years of traditional full-time undergraduate study.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-13
My child wants to take one course at a participating FACHEX school. Would I apply for FACHEX certification in that case?
<p>No, FACHEX only covers four (4) years of continuous full-time undergraduate study during the traditional fall and spring semesters.&nbsp; It is not available for part-time study or individual course remuneration.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-14
What are my child’s chances of receiving a FACHEX award?
<p>The process is highly selective. Many of the more popular schools in the program often receive 100 or more applications each year for no more than a handful of new awards.  Since FACHEX is normally offered to the most academically competitive student(s) in the pool, it is unsurprisingly highly competitive both in terms of space and selectivity.   You are welcome to contact the FACHEX Coordinator at the desired school to see if they know how many spots they have available for the year your child is applying.  You should also consider applying for Financial Aid at the desired school(s), since a Financial Aid offer may make it possible to attend that school should a FACHEX award not be offered.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-05
What happens if I miss the deadline to apply for FACHEX?
<p>The Benefits Office (benefits@bc.edu) will only process a late certification request if you first contact the FACHEX Coordinator at the receiving school to see if they will allow such an exception.&nbsp; Many schools do not allow for any exceptions and the Benefits Office is the only office on campus that can certify your child's FACHEX eligibility in the Tuition Exchange Database, as this certification is dependent on your employment status.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-07
What is the process for applying for a FACHEX award?
<p>After September 1st, but before December 1st, the parent employed at Boston College must complete the FACHEX Certification Form and return it to the Benefits Office (benefits&#64;bc.edu). This information will then be entered by the Benefits Office into the Tuition Exchange Database to certify eligibility of the child to participate in the FACHEX program, should an award be available.</p>
bc:offices/Admission/fachex/search-tags/outgoing-20
When will my child be notified of their FACHEX decision?
<p>Most schools notify a student by April 1st.&nbsp; It is important to realize, however, that once a certification has been entered into the Tuition Exchange Database any communication regarding the FACHEX award will happen directly between the FACHEX Coordinator at the school(s) to which the child has applied, and the child or child's family.&nbsp; Boston College cannot aid in this process, as each school sets their policy regarding how/when FACHEX decisions will be communicated.</p>

Will the FACHEX award continue if I change employment between two FACHEX institutions?
<p>I am a new full-time Boston College employee, but my child is already receiving a FACHEX award based on my employment at another Jesuit institution immediately prior to coming to BC. Will the FACHEX award continue?</p> <p> </p>
