It is with sorrow that the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures announces the death on Monday, February 8, 2021 of retired Associate Professor of French, Norman Araujo.
Prof. Araujo's long, dedicated career at Boston College began in 1964 as Assistant Professor, ending just one year shy of 50 years in 2013. A native of New Bedford and son of immigrants from the Cape Verde Islands, Prof. Araujo was a specialist in 19th-century French literature, as well as Afro-Portuguese literature. A most popular teacher of both undergraduate and graduate students, he leaves his wife, Barbara Cartmill Araujo. He was laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain.
