We are a group of interdisciplinary scholars, researchers, and practitioners who are dedicated to revitalizing philosophical, theological, and psychosocial traditions in psychology in order to augment our moral vocabulary for understanding clinical work within the context of a higher ethical calling.

Conference Chairs

David Goodman

David Goodman is the Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and External Relations, Director of the Center for Psychological Humanities and Ethics, and an Associate Professor of the Practice in Counseling, Developmental, and Educational Psychology at the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College. Dr. Goodman has written over a dozen articles on continental philosophy, Jewish thought, social justice, and psychotherapy. Dr. Goodman currently serves as the Series Editor for the Psychology and the Other Book Series with Routledge. He has authored and edited over a dozen books including The Demanded Self: Levinasian Ethics and Identity in Psychology (with Duquesne University Press, 2012) and Psychology and the Other (with Mark Freeman and Oxford University Press, 2015). Dr. Goodman is also a licensed clinical psychologist with a private practice in Boston, MA.

Michael Mookie Manalili

M. Mookie C. Manalili is a psychotherapist, professor, and researcher with particular interest in suffering, embodiment, meaning-making, narratives, memory, and ethics. He is a psychotherapist in a private group practice, utilizing narrative therapy, psychoanalytic approaches, mindfulness traditions, and body-based techniques. He is also Part-Time Faculty at Boston College's School of Social Work and Research Consultant for the Morality Lab and the Center for Psychological Humanities and Ethics.

Aaron B. Daniels

Aaron B. Daniels is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Psychology Department at Northeastern University and serves as a Mindfulness Fellow in the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service. Additionally, he is a Research Fellow with Psychology & the Other and leads the Psychological Humanities Research Group. A psychotherapist in Seattle for 10 years, he worked in community and private practice, achieving LGBT-specialist status. His current research centers on the ‘inscrutably alien’ and spiritual direction, a field in which he completed certification in 2022. Film, science-fiction, and ‘weird’ literature are frequent additions to his classes and research.

Matthew Clemente

Matthew Clemente is a Lecturer in the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College specializing in existentialism, philosophy of religion, and contemporary Continental thought. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Continental Philosophy and Religion and author of Eros Crucified: Death, Desire, and the Divine in Psychoanalysis and Philosophy of Religion.

Sofia is the Project Administrator at Boston College's Center for Psychological Humanities & Ethics, currently pursuing a Master's in Mental Health Counseling. Sofia made a significant shift from the corporate technology sector, embarking on a career change into the field of psychology. Her research interests lie in women's mental health and the intersection of mind-body practices. Looking ahead, she is considering a private counseling practice or further educational pursuits.

Ally Lynch is the Graduate Assistant and Conference Coordinator for the Center for Psychological Humanities & Ethics at Boston College. She is a recent graduate from Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a first-year student in the Master’s Program for Mental Health Counseling at Boston College. Ally is excited to be a part of this conference in London this year, as it emphasizes the significance of interdisciplinary engagement in understanding the human experience.

Bianca Serwinski

Dr. Bianca Serwinski is Head of Psychology and Assistant Professor in Psychology at NU-London. Her academic contributions span various domains, including Psychology, Psychobiology, and Health Sciences. Dr. Serwinski earned her Ph.D. from University College London (UCL) with a focus on Psychoneuroendocrinology and Health Psychology. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Serwinski explored the connection between the body and mind, specifically exploring the physiological mechanisms underlying the stress response. Her research involved the analysis of the impact of psychological and psychosocial factors - such as stress perception and coping - on the hormone cortisol and overall well-being. Notably, she contributed to the advancement of quantifying cortisol levels in human hair. Presently, Dr. Serwinski actively engages in psychology-related academic research across diverse contexts. Her research interests encompass behavior change interventions, the interplay between psychological processes and hormones, investigations into the blood-brain barrier, and longevity research. Dr. Serwinski is also a chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), bringing her expertise to practical applications, serving as a therapist, and offering consultancy services in the realms of Psychology and Medical Psychology to clinics and businesses alike.

Nathalie Massud

Nathalie Massud is an undergraduate student at Northeastern University, pursuing a double major in Psychology and Philosophy with a concentration in Religious Studies and minors in Behavioral Neuroscience and Human Services. Nathalie is the current leader of the Psychological Humanities Workgroup at Northeastern, and she is excited to help bring students and scholars together to foster interdisciplinary discussions at this year's London conference. Nathalie is interested in multidisciplinary research experiences and is hoping to continue these explorations in graduate school.

Vanessa is the coordinator for the mindfulness and mind/body forum for the upcoming Psychology & the Other conference in London. Currently completing her undergraduate studies in Psychology and Public Health at Northeastern, Vanessa leads weekly meditations at the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service. She is also involved in several research labs, including the Harvard Meditation Research Program, EPIC Brain Lab, and the Psychological Humanities group. She has a passion for integrative healthcare and hopes to attend medical school in the future.

Naomi Anbar

Naomi Anbar is an undergraduate student at Northeastern University, currently pursuing a combined major in Theatre and Psychology. She is particularly interested in the therapeutic use of theatre in various forms including Drama Therapy, and loves exploring various ways to integrate the two disciplines. Naomi is involved in leadership in Northeastern’s Psychological Humanities Workgroup and is very excited to explore and help others explore the multi-faceted nature of psychology at the 2024 London conference.
