Academic Counseling

SAAS Academic Counselors are responsible for fostering intellectual and personal formation for their assigned student-athletes through regular meetings designed to assist student-athletes with navigating the institution.  Academic Counselors coordinate academic services, track academic performance, monitor NCAA eligibility, help with graduation planning and serve as a liaison to faculty, deans, campus administrators, and coaches.  Each student-athlete is also required to meet with a Faculty Advisor each semester to discuss their class schedule and graduation plan.

Learning Services

Learning Specialists create individualized academic plans for student-athletes with academic challenges, learning disabilities, or ADD/ADHD.  Learning Specialists meet individually and in groups with assigned students several times a week to assist with compensatory strategies and academic skill development while also working with the Connors Family Learning Center and the Office of Disability Services to assist student-athletes with accessing their university-approved academic accommodations.

Academic Mentoring

Academic mentors aid in the development of critical aspects of learning and academic success by serving as a motivator, and academic coach. Academic mentors assist in the development and implementation of weekly objectives, long-term goals, academic skills, time management, and study strategies.  Mentoring occurs during study table in one-on-one and group settings.

Tutorial Services

The SAAS tutorial program is certified under the College Reading and Learning Association.  SAAS tutors are available to all varsity student-athletes with tutoring available across a wide range of subject areas, including math, history, science, writing, and foreign languages. Sessions are delivered through individual, small group and drop-in sessions.

Study Table

Study table is required for identified first-year and returning student-athletes to assist with time management and completion of academic objectives.  Requirements are determined by each team's Academic Counselor and Head Coach.  Study table occurs in a supervised study environment, the Murphy Family Study Center or the 2nd Floor Academic Center.  Each study center is equipped with computer and printing services.

Proctoring Services

SAAS provides proctoring services for student-athletes due to conflicts as a result of athletic related travel and competition.  Student-athletes should first attempt to reschedule missed examinations with their instructor or academic department prior to requesting SAAS assistance.
