Summer Programs

Why Study Abroad?

Studying abroad allows students to study topics and subjects outside their usual focus. It allows for immersion in a new country and new culture. An international study experience is invaluable and allows students to gain a new awareness of cultural diversities as well as international and local issues. Research has shown that students who have experienced international study or employment during their university education are more desirable to future employers. More than half of BC undergraduates (from all schools and faculties) study abroad either for a semester, a full year or through a summer program.

Why study in Ireland?

Ireland is located on the edge of Europe, and historically has many links with the US, through emigration especially. Ireland is a traditional country with a huge sense of cultural and native pride.  Dublin is the capital city and the main site for BC summer programs. Dublin is located on the east coast of the island and has a population of just over one million people. It has emerged as a European cosmopolitan city and has one of the youngest populations of Europe’s major cities. Boasting a rich historical background it offers many amenities and many local festivals and attractions.

Boston College Ireland is the Dublin home to all members of the BC family; students, faculty, and alumni. Located in the heart of the city, the St. Stephen’s Green property is a stunning Georgian house with enough space for class and down time.  The BCI staff strive to provide exciting and creative summer programs for all visiting BC students and faculty. Students can take advantage of their joint vast experience as well as their local knowledge and advice. Whether you want to know where to get the best Irish stew, or the nicest gifts to bring home, or even the historical context behind Dublin’s many attractions, they will be able to help and assist in every way.

Information on Dublin Summer Programs for 2021 will be made available soon.
