Amey Victoria Adkins-Jones

Adkins-Jones is a theologian and Black studies scholar with expertise in Mariology, theological anthropology, and Black feminist and womanist thought. Her research specifically considers Black madonnas and iconography, human trafficking, the prison industrial complex, racial justice, visual culture, and artificial intelligence.

Her presentation will focus on two pandemics: the COVID-19 virus that has shifted ways of life and being across the globe, and the persistently painful legacy of anti-Black violence in the United States. From the organizers: "As the responses to the viral pandemic have only highlighted and exacerbated the racial and socioeconomic divides in this country, and as the contemporary civil rights movement pushes for reform and abolition, declaring yet again that Black lives matter -- where is God? Where is the (c)hurch? Together we reflect on both the questions and theological resources for pursuing community and racial justice."
