Crux editor John L. Allen Jr., a journalist highly regarded for his coverage of the Vatican and the Catholic Church, and Matt Malone, S.J., president and editor-in-chief of America Media, will be the panelists for “Revitalizing Our Church: Ideas from the Catholic Press” on March 12 at 7 p.m. in Devlin 110.
The event is sponsored by Boston College's Church in the 21st Century Center, as part of its Easter Series which, according to C21 Director Karen Kiefer, seeks to examine the question: How can the Church be a more effective institution and restore its credibility among the faithful?
Allen and Fr. Malone will offer insights and analysis from their experience as editors of leading Catholic publications and multimedia platforms.
Associate Vice President for University Communications Jack Dunn will serve as the event's moderator.
Allen has written 11 books on the Vatican and Catholic affairs and his writing has appeared in the Boston Globe and New York Times, among other media outlets. He is a senior Vatican analyst for CNN and was a correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter for 16 years.
Fr. Malone entered the Society of Jesus in 2002 and was ordained a priest in 2012, the same year he became the youngest editor in chief in the history of America magazine, the flagship publication of America Media. America has been published since 1909 by the Jesuits of the United States.
