The Liberty Battalion (Boston College and Northeastern University) offers highly competitive, merit-based scholarships to qualified college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and to high school seniors. Current BC students may be asked to join the program for a trial period first, before being recommended for scholarship benefits. Criteria are as follows:
- 2.5 GPA
- SAT score of at least 1000
- Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB)
- the ability to pass the Army Physical Fitness Test (video consisting of push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run)
- U.S. citizenship
High school students may receive conditional offers, which are dependent on meeting the above requirements and obtaining admission to BC.
Army ROTC scholarship winners receive full-tuition scholarships, which include $1,200 for books each year, mandatory fees paid for, a $420 monthly stipend while attending college, and board (provided by BC). Seniors receive free on-campus housing for their senior year (provided by BC).
Special scholarships are available for nursing students who, upon graduation and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant, will serve as Army Nurses.
During your ROTC training, after the Cadet Leaders Course (CLC), you will be able to participate in the Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) between your junior and senior year of college. At NSTP, you will work one on one with an Army Nurse preceptor/instructor in a three-week, 120-hour clinical rotation in an Army hospital, in locations as varied as Hawaii or Europe.
Once in the Army, you will have your choice of a clinical specialty course, including Preoperative, Psychiatric/Mental Health, Obstetrical and Gynecological, Critical Care, Community Health, and Emergency Nursing.
Boston College students should contact the BC Army ROTC office directly. High school applicants applying prior to January 10 should go to the Cadet Command web site to complete the online application form. This is the fastest way of completing the application. Early application is best!
