Geoffrey Whiteside (MBA ’27)
This series highlights BC MBA students’ upcoming summer internships, featuring their firsthand accounts of securing internships across various industries and roles.
This summer, Geoffrey Whiteside (MBA ’27) will intern at Citizens Financial Group in Boston as a Treasury and Balance Sheet Strategies Summer Intern.
How did you secure your internship?
I secured this internship by utilizing the resources provided by the Career Development Office.
My career advisor helped me reach out to current Citizens employees, giving me a competitive edge during the multi-stage interview process.
I also attended an in-person presentation about the internship opportunity hosted by Citizens at Boston College.
How did your first year at BC prepare you for this internship?
The curriculum during my first year at Boston College has provided me with a solid foundation that I will leverage during my upcoming internship.
The Data Analytics Series, a three-course program at Boston College, taught me how to manipulate complex datasets and make strategic decisions.
Furthermore, courses in Corporate Finance and Investments have equipped me with the quantitative skills necessary to understand capital structure, interest rate risk, and liquidity—each skill essential for treasury roles.
What excites you most about your internship?
My primary goal is to build relationships with mentors, peers, and senior leadership to learn from their expertise.
Furthermore, I hope to gain a comprehensive understanding of how liquidity, funding, and capital management support Citizens Bank’s corporate strategy.
I look forward to applying the skills I developed during the year in Financial Modeling and Risk Assessment to the practicalities of balance sheet management at Citizens.
