Winston Center Closes 10th Anniversary Celebration

In September, the Winston Center closed out its 10th anniversary celebration in a packed Robsham Theater to hear the wisdom of David McCullough. Following the McCullough talk, more than 100 guests gathered in the Heights Room to mingle and dine, but most importantly to acknowledge the people who have contributed to the Center’s decade-long success. The Center's benefactor, Bob Winston, emceed the event and invited Chuck Clough, benefactor of the Clough Colloquium, and Norm Chambers, benefactor of the Chambers Lecture Series, to give reflections on their involvement with the Center. Brooks Barhydt, a former assistant director, and Josh Reed, a former Winston Ambassador student director, shared with the audience the impact that the Center has had on their lives and careers, and thanked the Winstons for their generosity through the years.

As we look back on a year that featured the first female president of Ireland (Mary Robinson), the first African American US Attorney General (Eric Holder), the African doctor who disrupted the NFL (Dr. Bennet Omalu), and the granddaughter (Christine Chavez) of a civil rights activist who continues his legacy, the Center has much to be proud of. And as we look to the future, we remain committed to providing opportunities that will expose our students to programs, people, and topics that offer diverse thoughts and perspectives, and prepare them to lead and be ethical global citizens.
