Excellence in Teaching Day 2025

Excellence in Teaching Day is a full-day event that brings faculty from across BC together with nationally-recognized scholars to discuss timely questions about teaching and learning. Our most recent Excellence in Teaching Day conference on May 5, 2025 focused on the theme of "Teaching for Democracy."  For those who we're able to join us, we've shared some recordings below.

Keynote Speaker: Danielle Allen

Danielle Allen

We were delighted to host Professor Danielle Allen as this year’s Excellence in Teaching Day keynote speaker. A professor of political philosophy, ethics, and public policy, Dr. Allen is James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University. She is also Director of the Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation at the Harvard Kennedy School and Director of the Democratic Knowledge Project, a research lab focused on civic education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

In her talk, “Educating for American Democracy,” Allen took up the question of higher education's responsibility to prepare the next generation of civic leaders: with values of pluralism, civil disagreement, and reflective patriotism at the center of the work.
