Small Bullett Faculty pay improves steadily from 1972 onward, reflecting a University determination to attract the brightest talent around. During the 1972-1973 academic year, pay for full professors ranks in the 50th percentile among the nations's doctorate-granting institutions. By 1980 faculty pay has risen enough to place average compensation at BC (on the assistant, associate, and full professor levels) within the top 25 percent of faculty salaries nation-wide. By 1993-94, it will reach the top 10 percent.


Small Bullett 24 faculty members are awarded Mellon grants for professional development, chiefly for completing works-in-progress.


Small Bullett Walsh Hall opens, bringing total campus residential capacity to 5,392 students or 50 percent of the undergraduate population.
