Small Bullett J. Donald Monan, S.J. becomes president on September 5, 1972. BC stands approximately $30 million in debt, endowment is an anemic $6 million, and an air of panic pervades the campus. The previous year, faculty and staff salaries had been frozen as an economy measure.

Small Bullett Long-Range Fiscal Planning Committee is appointed by Fr. Monan. Its charge is to plan BC finances over five years and to balance the budget in one year.

Small Bullett The University enrolls 11,787 students: 8,486 undergraduates and 3,301 graduate students.

Small Bullett Student Recreation Complex opens, providing extensive sports facilities for students. Seven years later the RecPlex will be named for long-time Athletics Association director William J. Flynn '39.
