about chris and his efforts
Beyond the typical fare of concerts and populist events expected from platforms of UGBC presidents, Chris Denice used his position to reach out to educate the BC
community about the importance of sustainability leaving a lasting impression on his classmates. He met with BC administrators over
the summer to garner support for BCisGreen Week. The planning alone required for the effort and the ability to inspire and delegate to members of student government were more than impressive. Chris left no stone unturned in his quest to reach out to all members of the BC community.
He started with an athletic event, BC vs. Duke Basketball, to engage student fans and alumni. He targeted students loathe to leave their rooms by giving them the option to be educated about sustainability by watching environmentally themed movies on BCTV during the entire week. He worked with administrators from the bookstore, BC Dining and Facilities to integrate university operations into BCisGreen Week by promoting recycling, the use of washable china rather than “to go” containers and other initiatives. On the academic side, Chris worked with professors for educational forums and the library to promote a “green” reading list.
Chris engaged the competitive spirit of students through the energy contest which he helped to plan and publicize. He led by example, spurring fellow residents of Ignacio to win by encouraging roommates and fellow residents to shut off lights.
Chris brought together diverse groups for a common cause – reducing the impact of university life on the environment. He is an incredibly talented individual who will continue to be an effective and inspiring leader when he begins his post-graduate life working for GE Energy.
