Kristie Mewis has been named to the U.S. Soccer Women’s Olympic Team

CHICAGO – Boston College women's soccer alumna Kristie Mewis has been named to the U.S. Soccer Women's Olympic Team. The 18-player squad was announced on Wednesday on ABC's Good Morning America.

This marks the first Olympic roster for Mewis. The 2013 graduate is one of five midfielders named to the roster. Mewis is the only player named to the roster that did not represent the U.S. at the 2019 FIFA World Cup. The USWNT will play a two-game series against Mexico on July 1 and 5 before kicking off the Olympics against Sweden on July 21.

Mewis debuted with the USWNT on Feb. 9, 2013 against Scotland and then recorded her fist goal on June 15, 2013 in a friendly at Gillette Stadium. After a five-year absence from the national team, Mewis earned her first call up to the full national team in October 2020 and earned her first appearance in over six years in going on to score her second national team goal in the Nov. 27, 2020 friendly against the Netherlands.

The Hanson, Mass. native now has 24 caps, four goals and three assists for the senior national team.

Mewis currently plays for the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League. In her time on the Heights, Mewis recorded 116 points in 89 games. The three-time Hermann Trophy semifinalist tallied 39 goals and 38 assists as an Eagle.

Mewis is the first Eagle to compete in women's soccer at the Olympics since Laura Georges represented France at the 2012 London Olympics.
