fall opening 2016: check-in instructions

When:

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

7:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire,
New York, Vermont, & Rhode Island
12:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. All other locations

How:

Before arriving on campus, please read through the First Year FAQ and the Fire Safety & Security Policies to ensure that you are well informed and that you do not bring prohibited items into the residence halls.

Vehicle hang tags will be mailed to the homes of all first year students living in the United States and not attending FYE Session 7 in early August. Each student will receive one hang tag. This tag will have each student's designated drop-off location and arrival time-block on it and must be hung from the vehicle's rear-view mirror upon approaching campus.

If you are an international student and will be arriving by car, you will be provided a hang tag when you arrive on campus.

Parking is not allowed near the Upper Campus residence halls during opening. Restrictions will be strictly enforced. Members of the Welcome Wagon will begin to unload the vehicle. While family and friends should help, the driver must remain inside at all times. Vehicles left unattended will be ticketed and towed.

Once the vehicle is empty of belongings, it must be moved to one of the designated parking locations. Boston College Police and Welcome Wagon staff will be stationed throughout the area to provide directions, help move belongings, and enforce policies.

Early Arrivals

The first year student move-in date is Wednesday, August 24. If personal circumstances make arriving on Wednesday impractical, first-year students may apply to move-in on Tuesday, August 23 at the earliest. Students applying should be as detailed as possible explaining the circumstances necessitating their early arrival to campus. Examples of these personal circumstances include travel in excess of 300 miles, parents' work schedules, etc.

Students affiliated with a BC-sponsored organization must contact their coach or advisor regarding early-arrival information. Details about the application for early-arrival status is available here.

For any questions about early arrival, please email transitions@bc.edu.

Orientation — Session 7

The final orientation for first year students runs from August 21 to August 23. Students attending this orientation should plan to arrive on Sunday, August 21. However, if personal circumstances make arriving on Sunday impractical, an application for early arrival may be considered for Saturday, August 20 at the earliest. In order for your application to be considered for arrival on Saturday, your home address must be more than 300 miles from Boston College. Applications for arrival prior to Saturday will not be approved.
