Special Interest Housing Program
office of residential life
The Office of Residential Life offers students unique residential opportunities in the form of special interest housing. Each option is based on a particular theme that influences both the planned activities and the interaction among residents. The staff is specially trained to meet the needs of the residents.
Residents are required to participate in programs and discussions. Students are also required to sign Living Agreements prior to moving into their room. Placement locations will not be assigned until after the application process is complete.
Shaw Leadership Program
The Shaw Leadership Program is a unique four-year living–learning program run through the Office of Residential Life. Each summer, 20 highly motivated incoming Freshman students are selected from a competitive applicant pool to become the "Shaw Class" for that graduating class. During the first year in the program, students reside in the Shaw House, attend weekly leadership workshops, participate in community service opportunities, and apply the skills they learn to create and complete a leadership project.
Open to Freshmen only.
Honors House
Students have the unique opportunity to live in an atmosphere that starts in the classroom and extends to the residence hall. Faculty lectures and cultural, academic, and social programs are held in this residence hall throughout the year. Residing with the students are three Resident Assistants from the Honors Program. The application process is also highly competitive, and housing in this program is not guarenteed to all honors students.
Location: Medeiros Hall
Open to Freshmen only.
Multicultural Leadership Experience Floors
Fostering diversity is an important part of the University's educational mission. The Multicultural Leadership Experience Floors (formerly the Mosaic Multicultural Floors) are open to students of all ethnic and racial backgrounds and provide residents the opportunity to be introduced to and learn about various cultures.
Students will work to further define and promote diversity with the hall and throughout the University through programmatic methods. Students are encouraged to plan and participate in multicultural theme programs that address the issues of our society.
Open to Freshmen only.
Healthy Alternatives Lifestyle Floors
Boston College has established Healthy Alternatives lifestyle floors for students interested in living in an environment free of alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful substances. This floor also encourages the students to maintain a lifestyle that supports academic success, personal development, well-being, and a sense of community. Residents will work to further define and promote healthy choices within the hall and throughout the University through a variety of programmatic methods.
Open to all classes.
Romance Language Floor
The Romance Language House seeks to bring students and faculty together to foster an intellectual community that shares the events of daily life in French and/or Spanish. Students living in the Maison Française and the Casa Hispánica participate in a unique academic living environment and must be proficient in French and/or Spanish to live on the floor. Students applying to the Romance Language Floors are also required to interview with the Romance Language Fellows-in-Residence.
