Downloading & Installing Microsoft Office 2008
For Mac OS X
Summary:  Learn how to download and install Microsoft Office 2008 on your Mac.

Pre-installation

  1. Print this page for reference.
  2. Download Microsoft Office 2008 to your desktop. When prompted, enter your BC username and password. Save the MicrosoftOffice2008-Mac.dmg installation file to your desktop. Do not install the application at this time.

  3. Caution
    • There may be a slight delay before your download starts.
    • Due to the Office 2008 image's large file size, it may take a few minutes to download.
    • To prevent disruptions to the download, we recommend that you use a high-speed, wired connection to the Internet, such as a broadband or DSL connection. Wireless connections are usually less stable and may cause your download to take longer or fail.

  4. Quit any open applications.

Install Microsoft Office 2008

  1. Double-click the MicrosoftOffice2008Mac.dmg disk image on your desktop (Figure 1).

  2. Double-click the Office Installer icon (Figure 2).

  3. When you receive the message "This package contains a program that determines if the software can be installed. Are you sure you want to continue?", click Continue.
  4. On the Introduction screen, click Continue (Figure 3).

  5. Read the End User License Agreement then click Continue (Figure 4).

  6. Click Agree (Figure 5).

  7. On the Product Key screen, click Next (Figure 6).

  8. On the Installation screen, click Install (Figure 7).

  9. Enter your Mac username and password when prompted.
    Office 2008 will install (Figure 8).

After Office installs, the installer application will search for and remove any old versions of Office as described in the following section.

Remove Other Versions of Office

  1. On the Remove Office screen, click Continue (Figure 9).

  2. When the installer finishes searching for other versions of Office, click Continue (Figure 10).

  3. You will either receive a message that the installer found no other versions of Office, or you will be notified of any other versions of Office installed.
    • If you receive a message that no other versions of Office were found:
      1. Click Continue (Figure 11a).

      2. On the screen that reads "No versions of Office were moved to the Trash", click Continue (Figure 11b).

    • If you receive a message that other versions of Office were found:
      1. Check the box next to the version(s) of Office you want to remove, then click Continue (Figure 12a).

      2. On the screen notifying you that other versions of Office have been moved to the Trash, click Continue (Figure 12b)

  4. On the Summary screen, click Close (Figure 13).

  5. Drag the MicrosoftOffice2008-Mac.dmg image file to the Trash.
  6. Empty the Trash.

Update Office

When installation is complete, check for additional Office updates by choosing "Check for Updates" from the Help menu of any of the Office applications.
