Downloading & Installing Microsoft Office 2004
For Mac OS X
Summary:  Learn how to download and install Microsoft Office 2004 on your Mac.

Pre-installation

  1. Print this page for reference.
  2. Uninstall any other versions of Microsoft Office, including trial versions, you have installed.
    Note: If you need assistance uninstalling other versions of Office, please contact the Help Center at 617-552-HELP (2-HELP from on-campus) or help.center@bc.edu.
  3. Download Microsoft Office 2004 to your desktop. When prompted, enter your BC username & password. Save the MicrosoftOffice2004-Mac.dmg installation file to your desktop. Do not install the application at this time.

  4. Caution
    • There may be a slight delay before your download starts.
    • Due to the Office 2004 image's large file size, it may take a few minutes to download.
    • To prevent disruptions to the download, we recommend that you use a high-speed, wired connection to the Internet, such as a broadband or DSL connection. Wireless connections are usually less stable and may cause your download to take longer or fail.

  5. Quit any open applications.

Install Microsoft Office 2004

  1. Double-click the MicrosoftOffice2004Mac.dmg disk image on your desktop (Figure 1).

  2. Double-click the Office Setup Assistant icon (Figure 2).

    Note:
    If you receive the message '“Office Setup Assistant” is an application which was downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?', click Open.
  3. Click Next, then enter your username and password for your Mac when prompted (Figure 3).

  4. Read the End User License Agreement, then click Next (Figure 4).

  5. Click Accept (Figure 5).

  6. Enter your name, and any other personal information you want to include, then click Next (Figure 6).

  7. On the Product Key screen, click Next (Figure 7).

  8. On the Installation screen, click Install (Figure 8).

  9. Enter your Mac username and password when prompted.
    Office 2004 will install (Figure 9).

  10. Click Finish.

Update Office

When installation is complete, check for additional Office updates by choosing "Check for Updates" from the Help menu of any of the Office applications.
