Installing Spybot – Search & Destroy

To download & install Spybot – Search & Destroy:

1. Close any open applications on your computer.
2. Open your Web browser and go to:  www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html
3. Click Download Now.
4. Save the file, spybotsd14.exe, to your desktop.
5. On your desktop, double-click the file: spybotsd14.exe
   Note: If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed on your computer, you may see the following alert (see Figure 1). Click Run.

   Note: If you have Windows Vista, you will see the following alert (see Figure 2), click OK.

6. Click OK (see Figure 3).

7. On the "Welcome to the Spybot – Search & Destroy Setup Wizard" window, click Next.
8. Read the license agreement, then click I accept the agreement, and then click Next (see Figure 4).

9. Click Next (see Figure 5).

10. Do the following (see Figure 6):
    • Uncheck Additional languages.
    • Check Download updates immediately.
    • Click Next.

13. Click Install (see Figure 9).

14. Click Install (see Figure 10).

15. Click Close.
16. Click Finish.

Updating Spybot – Search & Destroy

The first time Spybot – Search & Destroy is opened it should ask you to update the data file (similar to how you update your virus protection). In the event it does not, you can update now using the steps below.

To update Spybot – Search & Destroy:

1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
2. Open Spybot – Search & Destroy.
3. In the left menu, click the Update icon. Then, on the top menu, click Search for Updates (see Figure 11).

4. Check the components that need to be updated, then click Download Updates (see Figure 12).

5. Spybot is now updated (see Figure 13).

Using Spybot – Search & Destroy to scan your computer for spyware

Note: Steps 1-3 only appear the first time you run Spybot – Search & Destroy.

To use Spybot – Search & Destroy to scan your computer for spyware:

1. Check Don't show this message again, then click OK (see Figure 14).

2. On the Spybot – S&D Wizard, click Next (see Figure 15).

3. Click Start using the program (see Figure 16).

4. Click Check for problems (see Figure 17).

5. Spybot scans your computer for spyware (see Figure 18).

6. When the scan is complete, Spybot lists the spyware found on your computer. Click Fix selected problems (see Figure 19).

7. Click Yes (see Figure 20).

8. Click OK (see Figure 21).

9. The scan and removal process is complete.
   Important: You should scan your computer for spyware often.
10. Note: It is recommended that you now clean your computer by using one of the following programs:
    • CCleaner (free) - for Windows Vista, XP, and 2000
    • Disk Cleanup (comes free with Windows)
