Setting up MyFiles@bc through a web folder
on your Windows desktop
Summary:  Learn how to set up MyFiles@bc through a web folder on the desktop of your Windows computer.

In addition to working with files through a web browser, you can also create a web folder on your Windows computer. This allows you to easily drag files into a folder on your desktop that represents your space on the MyFiles@bc server.

If you create a web folder on your Windows computer for your MyFiles@bc space, you can:

Note: You cannot set up sharing of files or folders through the web folder. If you want to share files or folders, learn how to use the web application to set up sharing.

Creating a web folder to your MyFiles@bc space (the simple method)

The easiest way to create a web folder to your MyFiles@bc space is by using Internet Explorer and following the simple set up steps below. Once your web folder is created, you can use any supported web browser, to use your MyFiles@bc account. If you do not have Internet Explorer or you have problems with the simple set up steps below, you can use this alternative method to create your web folder.

Important:

To create a web folder when using Internet Explorer (Windows only):
  1. Using Internet Explorer, go to New Window www.bc.edu/myfiles and sign in to MyFiles@bc using your BC username and password.
  2. Click Web Folder button.
    Note: The Web Folder option will only appear in Internet Explorer on a Windows computer.
  3. If you have problems creating a Web Folder, get the latest New Window Windows Update. If that doesn't work, then download & install this New Window Microsoft patch.
  4. To create a shortcut on your desktop to your MyFiles web folder, so that you can easily drag and drop files into it:
    • MyFiles Web folderWindows XP and 2000: Open Windows Explorer and find your MyFiles web folder under My Network Places. Right-click on your MyFiles Web Folder and click Copy. Right-click on your Desktop and click Paste shortcut.
    • Windows 98 and NT: Open Windows Explorer and find your MyFiles web folder under Web Folders. Right-click on your MyFiles Web Folder and click Create Shortcut. When prompted to place the shortcut on the Desktop, click Yes.

Remember: If you do not have Internet Explorer or you have problems with the simple set up steps above, you can use this alternative method to create your web folder.
